How spell names are usually built
A good spell name is a promise in two words: an adjective for the feel and a noun for the form. Searing Lance tells you the heat and the shape before the effect lands. Wards lean on stable, protective nouns, such as veil, circle and mantle, while mind magic reaches for things that slip, like echoes, doors and names.
Many spells are also named for their inventor, which gives magic a history. Orrin's Silent Aegis suggests a student who lived, wrote it down and was credited by a grateful school.
Making magic feel like a system
Readers trust a magic system when its names follow rules. Pick a naming habit for each school and keep to it: attack spells use a force and a shape, wards use a stable noun and mind spells use something that fades. Decide whether a spell is cast by naming it, and whether the name has to be spoken in full, since a short and punchy name is easier to use in a fight. Keep a spellbook list with each caster's name, the school and the cost. When two spells share a root word, let the story explain the link, so students know which ones are cousins.

Questions about spell names
How do I name a spell so it sounds believable?
Use an adjective that carries the feeling and a noun that carries the form, then check that a caster can say it in one breath. A believable spell name is short enough for a fight.
Should spells be named after their inventors?
Sometimes. A possessive name hints at a history and a school that remembers its famous students, which adds depth for very little text.
Can I use these spell names in my game?
Yes. They are free to use. Common wording may overlap with an existing game, so search your final choice before you publish.
