How sword names are usually built
Legendary swords get compound names that fuse a force and an action: Dawnbringer, Oathkeeper, Frostbane. The first half is something large, such as a season or a feeling, and the second half says what the blade does to it. Ancient blades often keep a name in a dead language, with a translation added in a title, which makes the sword feel older than the people who hold it. Cursed blades name a hunger: Soulthirst, Gravebiter.
The best names suggest a story. A reader who sees Grief-render wonders who it was made to avenge.
Making a blade part of the world
A named sword needs a maker, a first owner and a price. Decide who forged it and in what tradition, then take the name from that tradition: smiths who revere the sun give their blades dawn names, and a cult of the dead gives theirs grave names. Let wielders change the name or refuse to say it, since people do that with famous things. Keep the sword's name rare in the story, and do not hand one to every hero. A world with a dozen named blades feels storied, and a world with a hundred feels like a catalogue.

Questions about sword names
How do I name a sword in my story?
Fuse a large force with an action, or take a word from an ancient tongue and add a title. Then ask who made the sword and why, and let the answer shape the name.
Should every sword have a name?
No. Give names to the few that matter, and the rest of the arms in your world stay ordinary. A named blade should arrive with a story.
Are these sword names free to use?
Yes. They are assembled from word tables and are free for stories and games. Search the final name before you publish, since common compounds may match an existing franchise.
